New drawing: ‘Carnival’
In a previous post of the drawing ‘Poet on the Run’ I referenced Wordsworth’s famous quotation about poetry being “Emotion recollected in tranquility” and how I prefer to think about ways in which I can work so that (raw) feeling can be contained in an (enduring) form. I am thinking here about the poetic in very broad terms - not just verse - as that underlying principle in art that creates an electric charge between the intellect and emotions.

What does it mean for a human to process the ‘stuff of life’ by translating it and, feel deep down that they have performed an act of liberation, revelation or catharsis? This surely is a question that has no simple answer. Perhaps all the art made since our prehistory can be seen as attempts to testify to the human condition and close the cycle between experience, imagination and meaning.
